Bringing fun, new experiences to all types of learners !
"For 15 years, I served as a teacher at the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind and I currently continue there as a volunteer. During this time, Kimberly Roberts has made many visits to campus to work with our blind, deaf, and multi-sensory disabled populations of students. Mrs. Roberts is not only a skilled and articulate instructor, capable of designing and implementing a variety of curriculum and lessons for students of all ages, but she is also extremely approachable.
Her lessons are fully accessible for students with blindness and she is very sensitive to the nuances of teaching students with special needs. Mrs. Roberts is very patient and observant, checking for understanding of concepts at every step. She picks up easily on situations in which a student might be having difficulty and she quickly adapts her instructional style or the technique itself to address it. She is a prime example of an instructor who lives by the mantra, "monitor and adjust." Mrs. Roberts also has appropriately high expectations for what students will learn and be able to perform at the end of the residency and she does not allow a special need to lower those expectations.
Of all the residential artists we have hosted, Mrs. Roberts' residencies have been the most favored among the students and staff. She has an astute level of sensitivity and adaptability that can come only from a person who "just gets it". She has not required any awareness training during her visits to campus. She exudes confidence and easily develops rapport with her students. I highly recommend Mrs. Kimberly Roberts and her residency programs for any school, especially for those that have populations of students with blindness or other special needs."
